Winter Finch Forecast

The winter finch forecast that is put out by the Ontario Field Ornithologists and written by Ron Pittaway can give us some insight into what birds might be around this winter. Finch species are known wanderers and they will go to where the food is available. When there’s a cone crop failure, finches can flood into the lower 48 from Canada. Keep in mind that this article is written for Ontario – and when looking a t a map, we in Minnesota are located to the south of the northwestern fringes of Ontario. That large province goes quite aways south and east of us.
