Redpolls and Grosbeaks – Nov 8, 2006

This morning the seed-laden trees in my yard are full of feeding finches. Redpolls are pigging out on the birch seeds and the Pine Grosbeaks are feasting on all the other seeds. These two species of finch have not started coming to feeders yet, but there are lots of them in the woods and along side the road.

Goldfinches have started coming in to the feeders. I haven’t seen the Goldfinches since last August. They are in their drab winter plumage.

Yesterday, a group of about 8 Evening Grosbeaks were on the feed pile on the ground. A couple even drank out of the heated bird bath.
