Red-breasted Nuthatches

This family group of Red-breasted Nuthatches have been visiting my peanut feeder for the last few days. It’s fun to watch the adult feed the youngsters peanuts. The youngin’s are also pecking at the peanuts.

Red-breasted Nuthatch

Since I got this feeder last winter, it has been a big hit. I originally bought it to try and lure away the Blue Jays that were hogging all the sunflower seeds. The peanut feeder has actually become the Nuthatches favorite, while the Blue Jays generally ignore it. Both White-breasted and Red-breasted Nuthatches come in for the peanuts. In fact, I would say the White-breasted Nuthatch now only feeds on the peanuts, they rarely go to the sunflower feeder.
