Ravens have fledged

There is a really cool raven nest located on some cliffs on Crane Lake. The nest is tucked under a rock ledge. It is in a safe area – land based predators would have an extremely difficult time getting to the nest. The Ravens have used this nest ever since I have been here in Crane Lake and that is 15 years – they have probably been using this nesting site for decades. I had checked out the site before the ice went out on Crane Lake and there were adult Ravens hanging around. I didn’t want to get too close and disturb them. When I checked the nest way back in the beginning of May, there were 4 young Ravens sitting in the nest. They were close to fledging then. Now they are out and about. You can hear their begging calls in the woods – their croaking is comical.
