Pileated Woodpecker

Sometimes opportunity comes knocking on a nearby tree. I had to move fast to get a photo of this male Pileated Woodpecker. I only got one shot off before he flew away. Pileateds are one of those birds that are not easy to get close to.

Great photo! I love Pileated Woodpeckers.. we have one who swoops through our yard regularly.. but I’ve never gotten a photo. Shy birds, nicely done!
