Bearberry found on an island on Namakan Lake in Voyageurs National Park.
Bearberry can be readily seen on lichen covered rock outcroppings and in other places in the coniferous forest. This is another plant that stays evergreen all winter. The berries even stay on the plant until spring – unless a savvy Grouse or Bear finds them first!
I love these vintage botanical posters. The flowers can be found on Bearberry in June, although you’ll have to get down on your hands and knees to see them. The insignificant flowers usually go unnoticed, but later the bright red berries will surely catch your attention.
