Trailing Arbutus buds

We are “in-between” seasons right now, the winter birds have been leaving and the summer birds aren’t here yet. It can get a little boring. I can see why people want to go south on spring break.

Yesterday I went out and poked around in the woods. Wintergreen berries are red and still cling to the vein. They’d make a tasty treat for a hungry Grouse.

The Trailing Arbutus is all ready to burst into bloom as soon as the days lengthen and the weather warms.

There are lots of evergreen plants in the northern woods.
