Yesterday I went to the Blueberry patch again and it is definitely “peaking” right now. I like picking Blueberries when the branches are so laden with ripe berries that they fall off like grapes. You can hold your bucket under one of those bushes and pluck several berries at one time. It’s a satisfying sound as the berries tumble into your bucket. That’s what it was like yesterday. It’s turning into a really good Blueberry crop. It’s a little late in the season, but I think we’re going to have berries for a couple weeks to come. The cool temperatures and abundant rain of this summer has resulted in a bumper crop of berries.
On my way out, I saw a Spruce Grouse hen and 2 chicks! Make my day!

I didn’t have my good camera with me, but I got a couple shots with my smaller camera.

Spruce Grouse will let you approach them if you move slowly and quietly…
I was only about 3-5 feet away from this bird. It was so neat to hear all the different vocalizations that went on between the mother and her chicks as the chicks were making their way through the underbrush. They were probably half the size of the adult, but they could fly into the cover in short spurts.
