Gambelii sub-species – Sept 13, 2006

I got several responses to my ‘i.d. help’ post on the MOU listserve. It was indeed a 1st winter White-crowned Sparrow. I also found out it is was from the Gambelii sub-species. This species breeds in the interior taiga and winters in the southern U.S. Here is what the adult looks like:
