Crane Lake circa 1910

Crane Lake sandbar at Nelson's Resort

I found this very old historic photo in one of the photo books at Nelson’s Resort. This is a view of the Echo River before the dam at Kettle Falls was built. It shows the sandbar that still exists to this day at the mouth of the Echo River. Now the sandbar is completely under the water for most of the year.

When the dam was built at Kettle Falls it raised the water level at Crane Lake about 10 feet. In the spring, when the water is really low, you can see this sandbar. It is a navigational hazard when entering the Echo River.
