Butter Butt – March 21st

Here are a couple photos of the Yellow-rumped “Myrtle” Warbler that has been overwintering here in my backyard since Nov 29th. The first photo shows his winter or non-breeding plumage.

The photo below was taken today, March 21st, and shows him changing to his breeding plumage. I don’t know yet if the bird is a male or female, but I have been calling him a he all winter – so I hope that’s the case.

The changes has been pretty subtle and I hope the second photo shows the difference. It’s hard to get a picture of him, he’s pretty spooky!
