I took a drive yesterday down the Elephant Lake road to scout out my next Owl survey. The Pelican River flows along right next to the road, and at this time of the year, without the hindrance of leaves on the bushes, you can get quite the view of the river. There are loads of waterfowl on the river now.
Trumpeter Swans
Like these Trumpeter Swans. I found a total of 8 Swans on my drive, none had neck bands.
Snow Buntings in breeding plumage
I found these Snow Buntings along the road. They are sporting their “alternate” or breeding plumage. The males will be completely black and white when they return to their breeding grounds in the high arctic.
