Backyard Visitors

White-crowned Sparrow

White-crowned Sparrow

Some of my backyard visitors.

White-throated Sparrow

White-throated Sparrow

Our little woodland Sparrow that sings continually all summer: Oh sweet Canada, Canada, Canada.

Harris Sparrow

Harris' Sparrow

I wish these guys stayed around all summer, but we are just a rest stop for the Harris’. They breed further up north – so does the White-crowned Sparrow. (but not the White-throated Sparrow)

Evening Grosbeak and Goldfinches

Evening Grosbeak and Goldfinches

BIG yellow birds and LITTLE yellow birds…
Notice the Goldfinch at the top of the photo is still molting into his breeding plumage.

Purple and Gold Finches

Purple and Gold Finches

Don’t these look more like Red and Yellow Finches? instead of Purple Finch and Goldfinch. And why is Goldfinch only one word, while Purple Finch is two? Too many questions, just enjoy the colors!
